Hoppy Holidays Everyone!
We hope you are enjoying this special time of year. It’s a time to make plans, decorate, and spend time with family and friends.
With 2018 quickly approaching, you won’t want to miss taking a peek at the House Rabbit Society’s 2018 wall calendar.
Their calendar is absolutely adorable. It will give you many ideas to be creative and make your own cute playhouse boxes for your bunnies. Their calendar also includes tips each month about caring for your bunnies. Proceeds from their calendar help to support the House Rabbit Society’s rescue and education efforts.
I simply could not resist this adorable calendar and already have it hanging on my wall. It would make a great gift for your bunny loving friends, and also for you!

I’d like to take time to remind everyone of some holiday bunny safety tips. Some of you may be new bunny parents, and others may already know these tips but a refresher never hurts.
Keep access to your holiday tree away from your bunny. Although it may be beautiful, it contains many hazards for your bunny like electric lights, artificial snow, glass ornaments, and tinsel.
Be sure to keep all holiday goodies up out of reach from your bunnies. Bunnies are known to have a sweet tooth and will gobble up a plate full of cookies or candy left within reach. Chocolate can be fatal to a rabbit, and cookies can cause painful digestive upset for your bunnies which may require a visit to the vet.
During the holiday season when there are extra guests, and so much activity, be sure to keep a close eye on your bunny to make sure they are eating normally. Also keep an eye on their litter box to make sure everything is moving through normally. Look for diarrhea or lack of poops which may be caused by stress or sneaking treats. It’s tempting for visitors to sneak treats to your bunnies as they are so cute standing up to beg. But as we know, too many treats are not good for our bunnies.
It’s often a good idea to simply close your bunny off in a quiet room until guests have gone home. Your bunny may not enjoy all the excitement and will appreciate a quiet escape from the festivities.
This month our recipe for your special bunnies is all about holiday stars!
Bunny Star Salad (Serves 2)
For this salad, select a variety of greens and/or fruits which are favorites of your bunnies.
We will be making stars from veggies and fruits using mini-cookie cutters, scissors, or a paring knife.
Suggestions for fruit:
Pear Melon Apple Star Fruit Kiwi Banana
Suggestions for vegetables:
Carrot Bell Pepper
There are two possible ways to assemble this salad.
The first is to cut 3 or 4 mini stars from fruit or hard vegetables and arrange on a plate atop your bunnies' favorite greens.
I prefer to go all out with the star theme and select greens which can also be cut into larger stars with a pair of scissors or paring knife into assorted sizes. Then top 3 – 4 cups of star shaped greens with several stars cut from fruits or veggies.
Suggested leaf greens to cut into star shapes with scissors or a paring knife:
Swiss Chard Kale Romaine Lettuce Butter Lettuce Turnip Greens Mustard Greens
Your bunny’s salad will look festive whichever way you serve it!
